Nirvana Film Festival: A Spot Of Enthusiasm For Indian Movies

A large number of French viewers have shown interest in Indian films at the Nirvana Film Festival held in the historic city of Saint Trope in southern France. Henry Allard and his son Frederic Allard, who are descendants of Jean Francois Allard, a commander under Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab in the early 19th century, have launched a festival in France to promote Indian culture through cinema. They collaborated with Saint-Tropez’s Mayor Sylvie Seri, India’s ambassador to France Javed Ashraf, French actress Marianne Borgo, Hinduja Industries Group (Europe) chairman Prakash P. Hinduja, and renowned Indian writer and journalist Dr. Bhuvan Lal for this endeavor.

Film Festivals Ties Culture And History

Notable attendees at this year’s festival included Indian film directors Ashutosh Gowariker, J. Anthony Joseph, and Leena Yadav. Additionally, famed cinematographer Aseem Bajaj, film producer Captain Gulab Singh, Hollywood distributor Marie Adler, and British MP Lord Rami Ranger were present. Captain Gulab Singh stressed the importance of hosting such festivals in countries with cultural and historical ties to India. Jean Francois Allard served as a commander in Napoleon Bonaparte’s army and later played a crucial role in modernizing Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s army to resist the British. He married Princess Bannu Pan Dei of Himachal Pradesh in March 1826. Henry and Frederic Allard, devoted descendants of Jean Francois, aim to strengthen the bonds between India and France through their initiatives.

Showcases Of Indian Cinema

The Nirvana Film Festival, which showcases Indian cinema, dance, music, yoga, meditation, fashion shows, and cuisine. The event is held in Saint-Tropez right after the Cannes Film Festival. Despite being only in its second year, the festival has gained immense popularity, with all shows selling out. The festival commenced with the premiere of Raghunath Manet’s new French film ‘Return to Pondicherry’, featuring French actress Marianne Borgo in the lead role.  Manet, an Indian-origin veena player and Bharatanatyam dancer living in Paris. Who has previously directed the documentary ‘Dance of Shiva’ and two short films, ‘Karma’ and ‘Yoga Seventh Chakra’.

The film ‘Return to Pondicherry’ narrates the story of Ruby. A ten-year-old orphan adopted by two wealthy French women, Marianne Borgo and Karine. As Ruby grows up in Paris, she experiences an identity crisis and returns to Pondicherry to find her biological parents. Despite her love discovery and reconnecting with her childhood friend, Ruby continues to struggle with her identity.

The Nirvana Film Festival, held in the coastal city of Saint-Tropez in southern France, holds significant cultural importance. The city has been frequented by global celebrities and has hosted numerous Hollywood and European films.
