NIA Gets 10-Day Custody Of Soyab In Red Fort Blast Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has secured a 10-day custody of Soyab, one of the key accused in the Red Fort blast case, following his arrest in Faridabad earlier on Wednesday. The agency produced him before the Patiala House Court, and the court approved its request for extended custody.

On the same day, the court also heard the case of another accused, Aamir Rashid Ali, whose NIA custody was due to end. The court extended his detention by an additional seven days, allowing investigators more time to pursue crucial leads.

Police arrested Soyab, a resident of Faridabad’s Dhoj, for allegedly harbouring terrorist Dr Umar Muhammad, also known as Umar Un Nabi, immediately before the car bomb explosion near the Red Fort on 10 November. The blast claimed several lives and left many others injured.

According to the NIA, Soyab is the seventh individual arrested in connection with the case. The agency said he not only provided shelter to Umar but also offered logistical support that facilitated the execution of the attack.

Before Soyab’s arrest, the NIA had already detained six close associates of Umar as part of its investigation registered under case number RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI.

Investigators Track Wider Terror Network

The NIA stated that it is following multiple leads related to the suicide bombing and conducting coordinated search operations across various states with assistance from local police. Officials reaffirmed that the objective is to trace and apprehend every individual linked to the broader terror module behind the attack.

Emerging details from interrogations have shed light on Umar’s meticulous preparations.

Investigators revealed that Umar carried a ‘mobile workstation’, a large suitcase containing bomb-making tools, chemical compounds and storage containers, which he transported wherever he went.

Umar, a medical professional associated with Al-Falah University in Faridabad, reportedly conducted chemical experiments inside his campus accommodation before assembling the final Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

One of the arrested suspects, Dr Muzamil Shakeel, also connected with the same university, told interrogators that Umar tested the substances that he later used in the explosion.

As the probe intensifies, the NIA continues to piece together the operational structure of the terror network, aiming to uncover the full extent of planning behind the deadly Delhi blast.
