Nepal Floods: India Sends Second Flight With 37.5 Tonnes Of Humanitarian Aid

India on Thursday sent a second flight carrying 37.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Nepal.

The consignment includes disaster-relief materials, medicines and food packets. It will support ongoing rescue and relief operations after devastating flash floods killed more than 160 people and left hundreds missing.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to Nepal through a post on social media.

Taking to X, the Minister posted, “A second flight has just taken off, carrying 37.5 tonnes of HADR material, medicines & food packets for Nepal.”

“India remains in close and continuous touch with the Nepalese authorities. We will continue to strongly support the ongoing relief efforts,” the post read.

The latest assistance follows a 10-tonne consignment that India dispatched on Wednesday.

India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, formally handed over the supplies to Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadak Raj Paudel.

The relief material will assist communities affected by extensive floods and landslides.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India remains firmly beside Nepal and will provide every possible form of assistance.

Nepal Police said authorities had recovered 162 bodies swept away by flooding in the Bhote Koshi River by Thursday morning.

Teams found the remains along riverbanks in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Gorkha, Tanahu, Nawalparasi East and Nawalparasi West.

Heavy monsoon rainfall triggered the floods and caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and farmland. Thousands of families have been displaced.

Rescue and relief teams continue operations across several provinces.

Local authorities face significant challenges due to the scale of the disaster.

India’s response reflects its longstanding ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, under which New Delhi provides humanitarian assistance to neighbouring countries during emergencies.
