NCW Issues Notice To Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt Over ‘Sarke Chunar’ Song Row

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued notices to Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt linked to the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from KD – The Devil. The action comes after allegations that the track promotes objectionable content.

Invoking its powers under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the NCW took action in the matter. It independently took note of media reports raising concerns about the song’s tone and presentation.

The material appears, at first glance, to be sexually suggestive and inappropriate.

The Commission further indicated that the content may contravene provisions laid out in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Besides Fatehi and Dutt, the panel has also summoned lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Group, and filmmaker Kiran Kumar. They have been instructed to appear before the Commission on March 24, 2026, at 12:30 PM, carrying all necessary documents.

The NCW has cautioned that non-compliance with the directive could result in further legal proceedings.

Previously, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had issued a notice on March 17, questioning the use of double entendre and potentially offensive lyrics in the same track, adding to the controversy.

Responding to the situation, Nora Fatehi shared her clarification through social media. She stated that she chose to distance herself from the project after recognising the possible impact of the lyrics. She further explained that she was initially unaware of the meaning behind the song.

Once she understood its implications, she decided to withdraw from any further association, including promotional efforts.

The issue has reignited discussions around creative responsibility in cinema. As both the NCW and NHRC examine the matter, the case is likely to see further developments.
