August 7 is marked as National Handloom Day

On August 7, 2015, India marked its first Handloom Day, a vision realized by Prime Minister Modi. The purpose behind the selection of this date is to honor the Swadeshi Movement, which began on August 7, 1905, and promoted indigenous industries, especially handloom weaving.

Handloom Day is dedicated to celebrating and acknowledging handloom weavers, offering them motivation and pride. It highlights their vital contributions to the nation’s cultural, traditional, and economic fabric. The day aims to raise awareness about the significance of the handloom sector and its role in the country’s socio-economic development.
