Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra: Amit Shah To Address BJP’s Concluding Programme In Jalandhar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) concluding programme for its ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ in Jalandhar on Wednesday.

The campaign, which targets drug abuse, began on September 18 with four simultaneous routes from different parts of Punjab and has passed through all 117 Assembly constituencies, covering nearly 4,000 km.

BJP leaders expect about two lakh people to attend the rally.

Organisers have reserved a 50-55-acre site, with around 40 acres set aside for the main event and the remaining space for parking. They anticipate nearly 2,000 buses bringing party workers and supporters from across the state.

The party intends to share the experiences of families affected by drug abuse during the programme.

The event comes amid an increase in BJP activity in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with the drug problem among its key campaign themes.

The BJP has criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s response to drug abuse, while the state government has reiterated its commitment to tackling the issue.

Party leaders say the yatra is designed to raise public awareness and encourage people to take part in efforts against addiction.

Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and state in-charge Satish Poonia visited the rally site to assess arrangements. They further reviewed security, traffic planning, parking, public amenities and other preparations with officials.

Dhillon described the event as a public awareness initiative alongside its political purpose. He further said BJP workers were making dedicated efforts to organise the rally and that the campaign had taken its message against drugs to communities in both urban and rural areas.
