Mumbai Ferry Incident: 38 Rescued After Technical Fault Near Gateway Of India

A ferry carrying 38 people developed a technical fault in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai’s Gateway of India on Thursday evening, leading to a rescue operation by the authorities and another ferry.

The Anwari ferry, which operates short sea trips from the Gateway of India, experienced the problem at around 08:30 PM while travelling back towards the jetty. It became stranded around 1.5 nautical miles from the Gateway of India, with 34 passengers and four crew members on board.

Mumbai Police received information about the incident through its control room and coordinated with a nearby ferry operator to assist the stranded vessel.

A rescue ferry reached the Anwari and towed it safely back to the Gateway of India.

All 38 people reached the shore safely. No one suffered injuries, and no other untoward incidents occurred.

The police and ferry operator worked together to prevent the situation from escalating and ensure the passengers returned to shore without further trouble.

Authorities will likely determine the exact cause of the technical failure.

The incident took place during regular ferry operations around the Gateway of India, a popular destination for tourists and visitors taking short boat rides.

Passengers and crew were safely evacuated, bringing the incident to an end without casualties.
