Janice Darbari
Montenegro’s Ambassador to India, Janice Darbari, is making headlines with her ambitious project to adapt her book, ‘The Administrator,’ into a film set to be produced in Delhi. The storyline of this upcoming film is centered on the life of Jagdishwar Nigam ICS and his battle against the British Raj.
What makes this project even more compelling is the deep family connection it holds. Janice Darbari’s grandfather, J.E. Nigam, played a pivotal role in the 1942 Quit India Movement as the District Magistrate in Ballia. It was during these crucial moments in history that India briefly tasted independence.
Dr. Darbari shared her motivation for the project, stating that her grandfather, J.E. Nigam, had personally witnessed the British atrocities from a young age due to his father’s profession as a lawyer. He keenly observed the discrimination against the Indian people within the court system.
Furthermore, Dr. Darbari has made a heartfelt appeal to the public, encouraging them to not only read her book but also participate in auditions for the upcoming film. She emphasized that the film’s narrative will revolve around the historic event of India’s first flag being hoisted at the District Magistrate and Collector’s office in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, on August 9, 1942.
Remarkably, this pivotal moment occurred without violence; rifles were peacefully stored in the Ballia police reserve line, and approximately 200 police officers complied with the orders issued by Magistrate Jagdishwar Nigam.
The forthcoming film adaptation of ‘The Administrator’ promises to bring this remarkable slice of history to life, shedding light on the courageous individuals who played a role in India’s fight for independence.
