On Monday, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju extended a warm welcome to the newly elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha, as the House convened for its inaugural session.
Rijiju, also serving as the BJP MP for Arunachal West, expressed his commitment to assisting the members in navigating parliamentary proceedings smoothly.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Rijiju underscored the significance of coordination among parliamentarians for the effective functioning of the legislative body.
“The First Session of 18th Lok Sabha begins today, the 24th June, 2024. I welcome all the new elected hon’ble members. I shall be always available to assist the members as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. I’m positively looking forward for co-ordination to run the house,” he affirmed.
Earlier in the day, BJP stalwart Bhartruhari Mahtab took oath as the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha, administered by President Droupadi Murmu.
Rijiju also engaged in a courtesy meeting with T R Baalu, leader of the DMK Parliamentary Party, marking a gesture of parliamentary goodwill and cross-party dialogue.
Sharing moments from the meeting, Rijiju expressed satisfaction at their discussions.
The 18th Lok Sabha came into being following the conclusion of general elections held in seven phases from 19 April to 1 June 2024. The BJP emerged as the leading party with 240 seats, though falling short of a majority.
Through coalition arrangements under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), BJP secured governance for the third consecutive term under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
