Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights Kerala Man’s Water Safety Mission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Kerala resident Saji Valasheril for his community-driven swimming initiative that has helped thousands learn a life-saving skill while promoting public welfare.

Speaking during the 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi shared Valasheril’s inspiring journey and highlighted how one person’s determination can create a lasting social impact.

Referring to the summer holiday season, the Prime Minister spoke about an unusual learning centre in Aluva, Kerala, where classes are held in a river rather than a traditional classroom. He described it as a place where children and adults learn swimming free of cost.

PM Modi noted that Valasheril has trained more than 15,000 people over the years, including specially-abled children, helping them gain confidence and essential survival skills.

The Prime Minister said a tragic boat accident involving students inspired Valasheril to launch the initiative. Deeply affected by the loss of lives, he resolved to teach swimming and improve water safety awareness within the community.

Driven by this mission, Valasheril turned his concern into a grassroots movement that has benefited thousands. Through dedication and consistent effort, he made swimming accessible to people from different backgrounds.

PM Modi praised his commitment to public service and said meaningful change does not always require large resources. Instead, he noted, sincere intent and perseverance can transform lives and strengthen communities.

PM Modi said Valasheril’s work shows how compassion and dedication can create meaningful change.

The initiative has strengthened water safety awareness and encouraged community participation.

PM Modi described the effort as an inspiring example of how sincere intent and consistent action can positively transform lives.
