Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights Famous Mango Varieties Across India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday celebrated India’s rich mango heritage and praised farmers involved in mango cultivation for their contribution to the country’s agricultural growth and expanding global presence.

Speaking during the 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said mangoes become a favourite topic of conversation across the country with the arrival of summer. He noted that few households in India remain untouched by discussions about the beloved fruit during the season.

Highlighting the remarkable diversity of Indian mangoes, PM Modi said every region offers its own unique variety, distinguished by flavour, aroma and appearance.

The Prime Minister referred to Maharashtra and the Konkan region’s famous Hapus, or Alphonso mango, Gujarat’s Kesar variety, Uttar Pradesh’s Dussehri and the renowned Langra mango associated with Varanasi.

PM Modi noted that the Langra mango stays green even after ripening, while Bihar’s Zardalu is famous for its distinctive aroma. He also highlighted varieties such as Chausa, Banganapalli, Totapuri, Himsagar and Malgova, saying they showcase India’s rich agricultural diversity.

PM Modi added that Indian mangoes have expanded beyond local markets and now carry the country’s fruit heritage to consumers worldwide.

The Prime Minister credited farmers for this achievement and said their efforts extend beyond cultivation.

According to PM Modi, mango growers play an important role in strengthening the rural economy, supporting agricultural exports and enhancing India’s global reputation for quality produce.

Praising their dedication, the Prime Minister described mango farmers as valuable contributors to the nation’s agricultural economy. He said their hard work and commitment continue to help Indian mangoes earn recognition across the world while preserving a cherished part of the country’s cultural and agricultural identity.
