Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights Amla, Moringa’s Role In Nutrition And Livelihoods

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday, highlighted the growing economic and nutritional importance of Amla and Moringa, saying traditional produce is creating livelihoods while supporting efforts to combat malnutrition.

PM Modi said Amla, traditionally used for pickles, murabba, juice and Chyawanprash, is opening new opportunities for farmers and women entrepreneurs.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh, the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative has strengthened the district’s association with Amla, with nearly 100 local units involved in processing the fruit.

PM Modi highlighted the role of women’s self-help groups in expanding these opportunities.

The Savitri Phule Self Help Group in Devgarh Kamasi village produces Amla candy, murabba and juice, while the Vindhyavasini Self Help Group makes Amla pickle and digestive powder. He said access to machinery, loans, wider markets and trade fairs has helped increase the women’s earnings.

The Prime Minister said every part of India has unique fruits, traditional arts and specialised skills, and the ODOP initiative aims to take such products beyond local markets to national and global consumers. He urged citizens to support the Vocal for Local movement, particularly during the upcoming festive season.

PM Modi highlighted nutrition-focused initiatives across states.

In Chhattisgarh, the ‘Har Ghar Munga’ campaign is encouraging families to include Moringa, locally known as Munga, in their daily diets.

Gujarat’s ‘Vangi Spardha’ drew over two lakh participants with millet-based dishes, while Maharashtra and Mizoram expanded nutrition drives.

The Prime Minister said these efforts complement digital Anganwadi services, now covering nearly nine crore beneficiaries.

PM Modi urged sustained efforts to combat malnutrition through affordable, locally grown foods such as Amla and Moringa.
