Manish Sisodia’s Judicial Custody Extended Until May 7 by Rouse Avenue Court

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, currently held in Tihar Jail in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case, faced another setback as the Rouse Avenue Court declined to grant him relief during today’s proceedings. Despite the expiration of his judicial custody in the CBI case linked to the liquor policy, Sisodia appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court via video conferencing, only to have his judicial custody extended until May 7. Additionally, a scheduled hearing on framing charges was adjourned due to dissatisfaction with the conduct of Sisodia’s legal representation.

The courtroom witnessed tension as Sisodia’s legal team and associates abruptly exited following the conclusion of the proceedings, much to the ire of the presiding judge. Expressing displeasure, the judge chastised the unexpected departure, emphasizing that no permission had been granted to leave the courtroom, deeming such behavior unprecedented. However, this incident isn’t isolated, as clashes between judges and legal representatives are not uncommon in the court’s milieu.

During the session, Sisodia’s counsel scrutinized the investigating agency, highlighting discrepancies in the progress of the case. The lawyer pointed out assurances made by the investigating officer regarding the completion of the investigation within a few months, which remain unfulfilled. Additionally, citing a previous court directive, the defense argued against commencing the framing of charges due to recent developments in the case, including arrests and recorded statements under Section 164. Consequently, the defense contended that the court should defer the initiation of charge framing proceedings.

As legal proceedings unfold, Sisodia’s legal team continues to navigate the complexities of the case, while tensions simmer between the defense and the judiciary, underscoring the intricacies inherent in the legal process.
