In a recent outbreak of violence in the ethnically divided Manipur region, three young individuals were discovered as mutilated corpses after a barrage of intense gunfire shook Kuki Thowai village in the Ukhrul district on Friday, as confirmed by officials.
Reports indicate that the village, located within the jurisdiction of Litan police station, experienced the sounds of heavy gunfire during the early hours of the morning.
Following extensive searches carried out by the police across neighbouring villages and forested areas, the lifeless bodies of the three youths—aged between 24 and 35—were located.
Disturbingly, the bodies displayed signs of injuries seemingly inflicted with sharp-edged knives, accompanied by the removal of limbs, according to statements from officials.

The escalation of ethnic conflicts emerged in the northeastern state on May 3, sparked by a ‘Tribal Solidarity March.’ This event was organized within the hill districts to voice opposition against the Meitei community’s aspiration for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
In Manipur, the Meitei population comprises roughly 53% of the total populace and predominantly inhabits the Imphal Valley. Conversely, the hill districts are home to Nagas and Kukis, constituting just over 40% of the population.
