Mamata Banerjee Defies Exit Polls, Leads TMC To Dominant Victory In Bengal

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal and president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has managed to hold her own in the eastern province. This is in contrast to exit polls that predicted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would gain a majority of the state; instead, her party is ahead in 25 of the state’s 42 seats.

Early indications indicated that the TMC was leading in every area but north Bengal, which had supported the BJP in the last two Lok Sabha elections (2014) and 2019. 2019 saw the TMC win 22 seats, the BJP win 18, and the Congress win 2.

Banerjee asserted that the BJP was attempting to split the populace by fostering a Hindu-Muslim division while holding more than 150 demonstrations and strolling through the streets of Kolkata and other cities.

Banerjee has been hosting administrative meetings at the district level on a regular basis and resolving people’s complaints ever since the BJP did far better than predicted in the 2021 assembly elections. The state’s opinion of her government has also improved thanks to the doorstep delivery program implemented by her administration.

Experts claim that it seems that the people were moved by Banerjee’s accusation against the Central government, alleging that it had refused the state funding on “flimsy” reasons. She refuted the BJP’s attempt to portray her as corrupt and instead focused on how the party discriminated against the Bengali people.

Experts also note that the data unequivocally demonstrate Banerjee’s widespread fan base and her status as the state’s tallest leader. It also highlights how much more grounded the TMC is than the BJP.

Her chances seem to have been enhanced by the Left-Congress combination, which received over 11% of the vote against the BJP’s 37%. As of now, 47% of votes have gone to TMC.
