Mallikarjun Kharge’s Pledge: Right Step At The Right Time

The Opposition INDIA bloc will continue to occupy the opposition benches for now, despite accusations from Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are “subverting the will of the people.” Kharge emphasized that the INDIA bloc will persist in resisting what he described as fascist rule, hinting at future actions to fulfill the public’s desire to see the BJP ousted.

This statement alludes to the Opposition’s initial strategy of attempting to win over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-elect Chandrababu Naidu. However, these two former allies have just formally signed letters of support for the NDA, thwarting the Opposition’s hopes of forming a realignment that would place the INDIA bloc in a dominant position.

During the INDIA bloc strategy session at his residence this evening, Kharge extended an open invitation to other parties. “The INDIA alliance welcomes all parties that share its fundamental commitment to the values enshrined in the Preamble to our Constitution and its many provisions for economic, social, and political justice,” he stated.

Buoyed by a surge in support after a decade, the Opposition has called for PM Modi’s resignation, asserting that the results of the Lok Sabha Elections demonstrate a clear mandate against him. “The mandate is decisively against Mr. Modi, his politics, and his leadership style. It represents a significant political and moral defeat for him personally. Nevertheless, he remains determined to subvert the will of the people,” Kharge said, with Sonia Gandhi by his side.

The BJP secured 240 seats, reaching 293 with its allies, 28 of which were contributed by Kumar and Naidu, who has made a spectacular comeback as the Chief Minister-elect of Andhra Pradesh. In contrast, the INDIA bloc holds 232 seats, with 99 from Congress alone.
