MahaYuti’s Meeting Over Govt Formation Cancelled As CM Shinde Leaves For His Native Village

The formation of a new government in Maharashtra faced further delays as the MahaYuti meeting scheduled for Friday was cancelled. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde left for his native village Dare in Satara, postponing discussions on cabinet allocation.

The meeting was set to finalise the distribution of portfolios, appointment of district guardian ministers, and cabinet berths. On Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a two-and-a-half-hour meeting in Delhi, reportedly finalising Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis for the Chief Minister’s post.

Shinde Camp Faces Challenges

Eknath Shinde expressed his willingness to abide by Prime Minister Modi’s decision. However, he remains reluctant to accept the Deputy CM post, citing pressure from Shiv Sena cadres to remain influential in the new government.

Shinde’s position weakened after NCP leader Ajit Pawar endorsed Fadnavis as Chief Minister and secured the planning and finance portfolios for his party. The BJP rejected Shiv Sena’s demand for the home department, insisting it stays within its quota.

Portfolio Demands Intensify Among Allies

The Shiv Sena has requested portfolios like urban development, education, cultural affairs, health, and transport. Meanwhile, the NCP seeks control over cooperation, food and civil supply, and tribal development.

The BJP plans to retain key portfolios, including home, energy, water resources, and rural development. Despite disagreements, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat reiterated Shinde’s suitability for the home department, emphasizing his ability to maintain law and order.

The delay adds to the uncertainty, with no final decision yet on Maharashtra government formation.
