Maharashtra: Congress spokesperson Alok Sharma is under fire after allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Marathi community. During a debate on Aaj Tak, Sharma reportedly linked the Marathi community to rapists while discussing the Badlapur sexual abuse case.
The remark sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra. Thousands of posts and posters condemned Sharma’s statement. Marathi enthusiasts, history lovers, and social media users voiced their anger. The BJP and Shiv Sena harshly criticized Sharma’s actions. Union Minister Piyush Goyal demanded an explanation from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Shiv Sena has filed a police complaint against Sharma, accusing him of insulting Marathi people and calling for his dismissal. The case has been registered, and the Marathi community worldwide is expressing its discontent.
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske wrote to Rahul Gandhi, demanding Sharma’s immediate removal from his post. Mhaske called Sharma’s remarks “extremely objectionable” and offensive to Marathi society.
In his letter, Mhaske condemned the remarks as “inappropriate and harmful.” He emphasized that the Marathi identity is central to Shiv Sena’s values. The party lodged a formal police complaint against Sharma, underscoring its commitment to protecting the community’s honor.
This controversy is expected to escalate tensions in Maharashtra as political parties demand accountability.
