To discuss the long-pending Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav travelled to Jaipur on Sunday to meet with his Rajasthani counterpart, Bhajanlal Sharma. He claimed that he had arrived at a decision regarding the distribution of water from the Parvati, Chambal, and Kali Sindh rivers that would help thousands of farmers as well as the states.
“Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments are going to take some decision regarding long pending river water distribution of Parvati, Chambal, and Kali Sindh,” CM Yadav told reporters at the airport in Jaipur.

He continued, saying, “The decision will impact thousands of farmers’ lives in addition to improving both states. It will create avenues for growth in the travel and tourism, industrial, and other sectors.”
In the state budget for 2017–18, the BJP government announced the ambitious Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) as a long-term solution to the drinking and irrigation water crisis in 13 districts in eastern Rajasthan: Jhalawar, Baran, Kota Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Tok, Jaipur, Dausa, Karauli, Alwar, Bharatpur, and Dholpur.
The former Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government had insisted that the Centre designate the ERCP as a project of national significance.
