‘Long Life And Wonderful Health’: PM Modi Wishes Hemant Soren On Birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday greetings to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday and wished him a long and healthy life.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes to Soren and prayed for his well-being.

Born in 1975 in Nemra village in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, Hemant Soren is the son of veteran tribal leader and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder Shibu Soren.

Soren entered parliamentary politics in 2009 as a Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand. He served in the Upper House from June 2009 until January 2010.

Hemant Soren became Jharkhand’s Deputy Chief Minister in September 2010 and remained in office until January 2013.

Later that year, Soren took the oath as Chief Minister and led a coalition government comprising the JMM, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress.

During the 2014 Assembly elections, Soren lost the Dumka constituency but won the Barhait seat by defeating BJP leader Hemlal Murmu. He became Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly in January 2015.

Hemant Soren contested the 2019 Assembly elections from Dumka and Barhait and secured victory in both constituencies. He became Chief Minister for a second term after the JMM-led alliance won a majority.

In 2022, Soren strengthened his government’s position by winning a confidence vote in the Assembly. He resigned as Chief Minister on 31 January 2024 before the Enforcement Directorate arrested him in connection with an alleged land scam.

Authorities released him on 28 June 2024, and Hemant Soren returned as Chief Minister in July that year.
