Lok Sabha Polls: Tripura Leads with 34.54% Voter Turnout, West Bengal Follows at 33.56% by 11 AM

In the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Tripura is leading in voter turnout with 34.54 percent recorded till 11 am, according to data from the Election Commission of India. Other states such as West Bengal (33.56%), Meghalaya (33.12%), and Madhya Pradesh (30.56%) are also witnessing high participation rates. Conversely, Lakshadweep has the lowest turnout at 16.33% by 11 am.

The voting percentages for the first phase of elections across various states and Union Territories are as follows:

– Andaman and Nicobar Islands: 21.82%
– Arunachal Pradesh: 18.74%
– Assam: 27.22%
– Bihar: 20.42%
– Chhattisgarh: 28.12%
– Jammu and Kashmir: 22.60%
– Maharashtra: 19.17%
– Manipur: 28.19%
– Mizoram: 26.56%
– Nagaland: 22.82%
– Puducherry: 28.10%
– Rajasthan: 22.51%
– Sikkim: 21.20%
– Tamil Nadu: 23.72%
– Tripura: 34.54%
– Uttar Pradesh: 25.20%
– Uttarakhand: 24.83%

Comparatively, the voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections stood at over 67%. In an incident earlier today, the BJP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission regarding a polling agent being denied entry into a booth in the Coochbehar constituency.

The first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 commenced at 7:00 am across 102 parliamentary constituencies spanning 21 states and Union Territories. Polling will continue until 6:00 pm. The Election Commission has set up a total of 1.87 lakh polling stations, with 18 lakh personnel deployed across the constituencies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third consecutive term, while the opposition coalition, INDIA, formed to challenge the BJP’s dominance, aims to unseat him from power. Subsequent phases of the elections will be held on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, following a similar pattern to the seven-phase elections held in 2019.
