Light Rain Greets Delhi As AQI Remains In ‘Poor’ Category

Residents of Delhi woke up to light rain on Wednesday, a day after the city recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with the maximum temperature reaching 30.9 degrees Celsius. However, air pollution remained a concern, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 228 at 8 am, placing it in the ‘poor’ category.

On Tuesday, the AQI stood at 259, also in the ‘poor’ range, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board. Several monitoring stations reported elevated pollution levels on Wednesday.

Anand Vihar recorded 285, Ashok Vihar 264, Burari Crossing 275, Chandni Chowk 286, and DTU 249. Mundka reported 309, Rohini 306, and Wazirpur 336, among the highest. Dwarka Sector 8 and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium both recorded 187, while ITO stood at 180 and Pusa at 152.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department has forecast very light to light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph during the afternoon. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 27 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Celsius, respectively.

A yellow alert has been issued, with predictions of cloudy skies and possible thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places through the day.

Delhi has been witnessing unseasonal warmth this month. February 16 recorded the highest temperature of the season, followed by 30.9 degrees Celsius on February 17—about 6.5 degrees above normal for mid-February.

The weather system is likely to impact neighbouring regions as well, with scattered showers predicted in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Noida is expected to see cloudy skies with light rain, while Gurugram may experience partly cloudy conditions with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Clear skies are forecast in the coming days for both cities.
