HM Amit Shah To Participate In ISKCON Ceremony In Mayapur, West Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will take part in a religious function at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in Mayapur, situated in Nadia district of West Bengal. He is also scheduled to address devotees assembled for the occasion.

The event commemorates the 152nd anniversary of the sacred appearance of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, the noted Vaishnav reformer of the 19th century and founder of the Gaudiya Math, whose legacy remains influential among followers.

Sources within the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party have indicated that HM Shah is unlikely to engage in explicit political discourse during his remarks, given the devotional character of the programme.

A senior party functionary explained that the Home Minister’s presence is centred on participating in the spiritual ceremonies. As the day’s activities are dedicated entirely to honouring Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, the address is expected to remain focused on religious themes, despite the proximity of the state Assembly elections.

Schedule and Accompanying Leaders

According to the itinerary, HM Shah will land at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at approximately 2 PM. He will then proceed to Mayapur via a specially arranged helicopter.

The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, will accompany him during the visit. Other senior BJP leaders from the state will also be present.

After touching down in Mayapur at around 2:25 PM, HM Shah will travel to the temple complex by golf cart.

Upon reaching the premises, HM Shah will offer floral tributes at the statue of ISKCON’s founder, AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He will subsequently engage in various rituals, including Narsingh Puja, Panchayatana Puja, and Ashtasakhi Puja.

He is expected to take his seat on the main stage by 3 PM. His speech is scheduled to begin at around 3:20 PM.

Direct political references are not anticipated. However, observers will closely watch his address to see whether he conveys any subtle messages ahead of the elections.
