Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, today. He announced the release of a loan worth Rs 5,000 crore to self-help groups. Additionally, he distributed certificates to 11 lakh Lakhpati Didis.
In his address, PM Modi voiced concern over rising rape incidents across India. Without naming specific cases such as the sexual abuse of a female doctor in Kolkata or the abuse of girls in Badlapur, he remarked that every state is recognizing the pain and anger of its daughters.
PM Modi highlighted the impact of the new financial scheme. He stated, “With our scheme, lakhs of sisters will become lakhpatis.” He emphasized the significance of the Lakhpati Didi’s Maha Sammelan, noting that the released funds would support self-help groups across the country.
The Prime Minister shared his recent experience in Poland. He mentioned seeing a reflection of Maharashtra’s culture there. He noted, “The people of Poland respect the people of Maharashtra a lot. There is a Kolhapur Memorial in the capital of Poland, built to honor the people of Kolhapur.”
PM Modi recalled that during World War II, the royal family of Kolhapur provided shelter to thousands of Polish mothers and children. He expressed pride in Maharashtra’s global reputation and urged for continued development to elevate the state’s name further.
At the Sammelan, PM Modi released a revolving fund of Rs 2,500 crore. This fund will benefit approximately 48 lakh members of 4.3 lakh self-help groups. He also unveiled a bank loan of Rs 5,000 crore, aimed at supporting 25.8 lakh members of 2.35 lakh self-help groups.
