VD Satheesan, on Wednesday, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi during his first official interaction after assuming office as Keralam’s Chief Minister.
The meeting formed part of CM Satheesan’s two-day visit to the national capital aimed at strengthening coordination between the Keralam government and the Centre.
The discussion came a day after the Chief Minister held separate meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Sources indicated that the meeting with Amit Shah primarily focused on Keralam’s financial challenges, pending central assistance, and concerns related to the cooperative sector.
Shah, who also oversees the Cooperation Ministry, reportedly reviewed matters connected with cooperative institutions functioning in the state.
Internal security coordination and developmental priorities also featured prominently during the discussions.
Political observers said the new Keralam government aims to maintain strong coordination with the Centre on administrative and economic issues.
Earlier on Tuesday, CM Satheesan clarified that the current visit largely served as a courtesy interaction following his swearing-in ceremony on May 18. He indicated that future visits would involve more detailed discussions with comprehensive preparations on state-related concerns.
Analysts observed that the meetings carry significance as Keralam continues to face fiscal pressures and seeks enhanced support from the Centre.
Despite political rivalry between the Indian National Congress and the BJP, the Chief Minister’s Delhi engagements signal efforts to ensure smoother Centre-State relations.
Officials released photographs from the meeting.
CM Satheesan will return to Kochi on Wednesday night before attending programmes in north Keralam and a civic reception in Kozhikode on Thursday.
