In a tragic and disturbing incident in Karnataka, a 23-year-old woman named Pratibha S, who had given birth less than two weeks ago, was allegedly murdered by her husband, D Kishore, a policeman. The motive behind this heinous act was Kishore’s suspicion that Pratibha was involved with another man.
The chain of events began with Kishore consuming a poisonous substance in an apparent suicide attempt. However, he did not succeed in ending his own life and, instead, resorted to strangling his wife, Pratibha. At the time of this incident, Pratibha was residing at her parents’ home in Hoskote Taluk, having given birth to a baby boy on October 28. Meanwhile, Kishore was living in Chamarajanagar, which is approximately 230 kilometers away.

The father of the young woman expressed his devastation and labeled his son-in-law as a “psycho.” He spoke of their initial hopes when they married their daughter to Kishore, believing him to be a good man, only to discover his criminal actions. He called for justice and the punishment of Kishore to prevent other young women from experiencing what his daughter did.
The couple, Pratibha, who held a degree in Computer Science, and 32-year-old Kishore, from Veerapura in Kolar district, got married in November the previous year. The father also alleged that there were dowry demands involved in the marriage.

According to the police, the tragic incident unfolded following an acrimonious telephone exchange between Kishore and Pratibha on Sunday evening, which left the new mother in tears. Her mother advised her to disconnect the call and take a break from speaking to Kishore to avoid distressing their newborn child. However, on Monday, Pratibha discovered 150 missed calls from Kishore. Later in the day, Kishore arrived at his in-laws’ home, where he cornered his wife inside a locked room and took her life. Pratibha’s mother was on the roof at the time, as reported by the police.
Before escaping, Kishore reportedly confessed to his mother-in-law, saying, “Kondu bitte avalna, kondu bitte (I killed her, I killed her).” This deeply tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of domestic disputes and the need for awareness and support for victims of such situations.
