JPSC-JSSC Row: Students Continue Protest In Ranchi As Babulal Marandi Meets Aspirants

Student protests over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations continued for the 19th consecutive day in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Protesters maintained that candidates from both examinations had faced difficulties for several years and pledged to continue their joint agitation.

One protester alleged that senior police and administrative officials visited the demonstration site at around 12:30 AM on Tuesday night and remained there for approximately 90 minutes.

The student claimed that the officials, including the SP, DC and SSP, attempted to separate JPSC and JSSC candidates.

Protesters questioned the officials’ intentions and said both groups had united because they faced similar long-standing concerns.

Another protester said a large number of people had joined the agitation but expressed concern about the deteriorating health of students remaining at the site.

BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi visited the protesters early on Wednesday, held discussions with them and raised their concerns before the media.

The recruitment controversy has emerged as a major political issue in Jharkhand, with Opposition members repeatedly raising it in the state Assembly.

The Jharkhand Assembly’s Monsoon Session ended a day ahead of schedule on Tuesday amid continued disruptions, confrontations and sloganeering by members of the ruling coalition and the Opposition.

The protests inside the House centred on alleged recruitment examination irregularities, police action against students and the statewide shutdown called by the BJP.

Assembly proceedings remained disrupted as legislators from both sides entered the well of the House and exchanged slogans.

Tensions escalated when State Minister Irfan Ansari raised slogans against BJP legislators.

Marandi attempted to address the House, but the uproar intensified, forcing the authorities to adjourn the Assembly sine die.
