N Chandrasekaran Resigns As Tata Sons Chairman; Won’t Seek Reappointment After February 2027

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has resigned and will not seek reappointment after his current tenure ends in February 2027, according to an NDTV Profit report citing sources.

The development comes ahead of Tata Sons’ Annual General Meeting, scheduled for 18 August.

In a statement, Chandrasekaran said he had completed 40 years of professional life with the Tata Group and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the institution. He described leading Tata Sons over the past decade as a great honour and profound responsibility.

Chandrasekaran has served as Chairman of Tata Sons and the wider Tata Group since January 2017. He began his career with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an intern in 1987 and became the technology company’s Chief Executive Officer in 2009 before taking charge of Tata Sons.

According to the report, Tata Sons set two conditions in July 2025 for extending his tenure. These included keeping the holding company unlisted and resolving issues concerning the Shapoorji Pallonji Group’s stake.

Tata Sons serves as the Tata Group’s principal investment holding company, with Tata Trusts owning approximately 66 per cent of its equity.

Chandrasekaran’s reported departure comes as the conglomerate continues restructuring its businesses and addressing matters concerning its ownership and capital structure.

Several Tata Group stocks faced selling pressure following the development during Wednesday’s morning session.

Tata Consumer Products fell more than 1 per cent to ₹1,066 on the National Stock Exchange, while TCS also declined sharply.

Titan Company dropped 1.03 per cent to ₹5,075.10, while Tata Power fell 0.9 per cent to ₹376.60.
