JP Nadda: Over 34.7 Crore Ayushman Cards Issued, 29,000+ Hospitals Empanelled

Union Health Minister JP Nadda informed the Lok Sabha that over 34.7 crore Ayushman cards have been issued and more than 29,000 hospitals have been impaneled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, providing healthcare benefits to thousands across the country.

As of June 30, over 34.7 crore Ayushman cards have been created under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) across 33 States and Union Territories, excluding Delhi, West Bengal, and Odisha. Uttar Pradesh leads with 511.16 lakh cards, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 402.45 lakh cards, and Bihar with 295.26 lakh cards. The regions with the fewest cards are Dadra and Nagar Haveli Daman and Diu with 0.14 lakh cards, Lakshadweep with 0.35 lakh cards, and Sikkim with 0.77 lakh cards.

Minister JP Nadda also highlighted that by June 30, the AB-PMJAY scheme had authorized 7.37 crore hospital admissions, amounting to Rs 1 lakh crore in healthcare costs. The scheme aims to provide health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalizations to approximately 55 crore beneficiaries, equivalent to 12.34 crore families.

Eligible individuals can access cashless and paperless hospitalizations at over 29,000 impaneled hospitals nationwide, including 12,625 private hospitals. All impaneled hospitals have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with their respective State Health Agencies (SHAs).

The AB-PMJAY scheme offers cashless healthcare services for 1,949 procedures across 27 medical specialties, such as general medicine, surgery, cardiology, and oncology.

In terms of hospital empanelment, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number with 2,634 private and 2,948 public hospitals. It is followed by Tamil Nadu with 1,202 private and 996 public hospitals, Andhra Pradesh with 1,027 private and 1,406 public hospitals, Gujarat with 868 private and 1,747 public hospitals, and Bihar with 564 private and 2,968 public hospitals. Odisha has the fewest impanelled hospitals, with only one private and 11 public hospitals, followed by Delhi with 52 private and 11 public hospitals, and West Bengal with 10 private and 27 public hospitals.
