J&K To Spend Rs 185 Crore On Road & Bridge Restoration

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the government will spend Rs 185 crore to restore roads permanently and bridges damaged by recent flash floods and landslides in Rajouri district.

Replying to MLA Rajouri Iftikhar Ahmed during the Legislative Assembly’s Question Hour, Abdullah said authorities had assessed the damage and provided relief to affected families.

The administration received 149 family-wise damage cases and disbursed Rs 40.61 lakh under SDRF norms, along with Rs 2.81 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The government has proposed restoring 403 damaged roads and bridges across Rajouri district at an estimated cost of Rs 185 crore.

Officials temporarily restored all damaged roads, bridges, water supply systems and power infrastructure within a month.

Abdullah said heavy rains and flash floods in July caused power infrastructure damage worth Rs 27.99 crore in Rajouri district, including Rs 9.39 crore in the Rajouri constituency.

Authorities installed an Emergency Restoration System tower on the 132 KV Rajouri-Draba transmission line, while tendering for permanent repairs is underway.

Agricultural losses included damage to 416 hectares of maize and 101.50 hectares of paddy.

Meanwhile, Abdullah said electrification projects covering 29 habitations and 1,936 households in Kupwara are progressing under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.

The government has awarded works worth Rs 14.74 crore across 10 blocks, with completion targeted by October 2027.
