In a significant operation aimed at combating drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended a drug peddler in Baramulla district on Monday and seized a substantial quantity of contraband from his possession.
According to a police statement, the team from Police Station Tangmarg, led by SHO PS Tangmarg, made the arrest during a routine checkpoint operation at Hospital Crossing Tangmarg.
Police intercepted and subsequently searched Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Nadirgund, the identified suspect.
Officials stated, “During the search, the police recovered 35 grams of a substance resembling Charas from Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh.”
The police have taken the suspect into custody and transferred him to PS Tangmarg for further legal proceedings.
Following the arrest, authorities have initiated a case under pertinent sections of the law at Police Station Tangmarg and have commenced an investigation into the matter.
Expressing their commitment to tackling the drug menace, the police issued an appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or other crimes.
The police statement asserted, “We urge citizens to promptly inform the nearest police station or call 112 if they come across any instance of drug peddling or criminal activities.”
Assuring proactive measures against such offenses, the police reassured the community of their dedication to maintaining law and order.
“The police will continue to take stringent actions against criminals as per the provisions of the law,” the statement concluded.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by Jammu and Kashmir Police to curb the circulation of illegal substances and uphold public safety across the region.
