Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Expands With Induction Of Ramniwas Rawat

On Monday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav bolstered his cabinet with the induction of veteran leader Ramniwas Rawat, marking a significant political development in the state.

Ramniwas Rawat, aged 64 and a six-time former Congress legislator from the Vijaypur Assembly constituency, recently crossed party lines to join the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

His formal induction ceremony took place at Rajbhavan, where Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office.

The addition of Rawat brings the total number of ministers in Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s cabinet to 31, leaving room for up to 34 cabinet ministers as per the state’s legislative framework.

Post-swearing-in, Rawat is likely to tender his resignation from the MLA post, paving the way for a by-election in the Vijaypur constituency within the next six months.

Having first entered the legislative assembly in 1990 and subsequently serving as a minister in former CM Digvijaya Singh’s cabinet in 1993, Rawat holds significant political experience.

Hailing from the OBC community in the Gwalior-Chambal region, Rawat contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Morena but faced defeat against BJP’s Narendra Singh Tomar.

In the state assembly elections held last year, BJP secured a resounding victory, prompting defections from Congress ranks, including Rawat along with Kamlesh Shah and Nirmala Sapre, who switched allegiance to the ruling party.

Before assuming office as minister, Rawat expressed, “I am committed to serving the people of Vijaypur, who have entrusted me with their mandate six times. With the support of the BJP government, I look forward to fulfilling the aspirations of the public.”

The expansion of the cabinet underscores Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s strategy to consolidate governance and address the diverse needs of Madhya Pradesh amidst evolving political dynamics.
