On Thursday, security forces neutralized five terrorists while two soldiers sustained injuries in the ongoing encounter in Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the operation’s success on X, stating that security forces neutralized five terrorists in the ongoing operation in Kader, Kulgam. During the firefight, two soldiers sustained injuries and evacuated for medical care.
The encounter began earlier today in Kader, Kulgam, when security forces launched a joint operation based on specific intelligence about terrorist activity in the area.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps reported that the terrorists unleashed a ‘heavy volume’ of fire when confronted by security forces.
“OP KADER, Kulgam. On 19 Dec 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice at Kader, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volume of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress,” the Chinar Corps further added.
This incident follows a similar operation on 3 December, when security forces killed terrorist Junaid Ahmed Bhat in an encounter in Srinagar district.
Bhat, linked to several terror attacks, participated in the killing of civilians in Gagangir, Ganderbal.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will likely chair a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi on 19 December. Sources say the meeting will focus on critical security matters, with special attention to Jammu and Kashmir.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will also attend the meeting, which aims to assess strategies for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
