Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Urges High-Level Probe Into Kanchanjunga Express Tragedy

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic Kanchanjunga Express train accident near West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri railway station.

The incident, which claimed the lives of 15 individuals and left more than 60 injured, has sparked outrage and sorrow among communities affected by the mishap.

JIH President Calls For Accountability & Urgent Improvements In Emergency Response

In a poignant statement, JIH Vice-President Prof. Salim Engineer expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and urged swift action to ascertain the causes behind the accident.

Prof. Engineer expressed deep sadness over the tragic train accident.

He stated, “Our hearts go out to the bereaved families, and we pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Eyewitness accounts have raised concerns over the response time of emergency services following the incident.

According to reports, it took over an hour for police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and disaster management teams to reach the scene.

This delay has prompted calls for a comprehensive inquiry into the handling of the emergency response efforts.

“The delayed response is alarming and warrants a thorough investigation,” Prof. Engineer emphasized.

He praised the local villagers for swiftly assisting in rescue operations and providing aid to the injured passengers during Eid celebrations, showcasing the community spirit in times of adversity.

Drawing attention to previous incidents, Prof. Engineer highlighted the tragic Balasore train accident last year, stressing that lessons must be learned to prevent such disasters in the future.

“A year after Balasore, it is deeply troubling that we are facing another grave accident,” he remarked.

“The recurrence of such incidents underscores the urgent need for accountability and corrective measures.”

JIH has demanded a high-level inquiry into the Kanchanjunga Express accident, emphasizing the need to make the findings public to ensure transparency and accountability.

Prof. Engineer emphasized the need to hold those responsible accountable and implement measures to prevent similar tragedies.

He further added,”Affected families should receive adequate compensation to assist them during this difficult time.”
