Infineon Technologies Signs MoU With NIELIT To Boost Semiconductor Skills In India

Infineon Technologies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to enhance semiconductor skills and workforce development in India.

The agreement marks a significant step in developing India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the MoU in Ahmedabad on January 14, 2026.

Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck joined the German delegation during the Chancellor’s first official visit to India.

Under the partnership, Infineon will collaborate with NIELIT to design and deliver training programmes in semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging.

The collaboration will update course content, conduct expert-led seminars, run ‘train the trainer’ initiatives, and donate equipment for practical learning.

NIELIT, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, plays a crucial role in technical education and skilling across India.

Hanebeck said India ranks among the world’s fastest-growing economies, and its drive to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem aligns with Infineon’s expertise in power systems and IoT technologies.

He added that the partnership shows Infineon’s long-term commitment to India as a hub for innovation, research, and talent development. It supports the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

NIELIT Director General Prof M M Tripathi described the collaboration as a milestone for India’s semiconductor ambitions.

He noted that NIELIT’s nationwide training network, combined with Infineon’s global manufacturing experience, will train Indian youth for semiconductor careers.

This collaboration will help India achieve self-reliance in critical technologies. Ahead of the MoU, Infineon hosted a two-day workshop in New Delhi from January 12 to 13.

The event, titled ‘Semiconductors: A Key Enabler for Viksit Bharat 2047: From Vision to Reality’, gathered global industry experts, officials, and policymakers.

They discussed strategies to build a competitive semiconductor ecosystem in India.
