Indraprastha Gas Limited Cuts PNG Prices Across Delhi-NCR From January 1

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), India’s largest city gas distribution company, announced a reduction in household piped cooking gas prices across Delhi and the National Capital Region.

The company cut domestic PNG rates by ₹0.70 per standard cubic metre, offering immediate relief to consumers as the New Year begins.

IGL confirmed that the revised prices will take effect from January 1.

The announcement came through an official post on X, reinforcing the company’s intent to pass on cost benefits to households.

Following the reduction, consumers in Delhi will pay ₹47.89 per scm for piped natural gas. Households in Gurugram will receive gas at ₹46.70 per scm, while residents of Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad will pay ₹47.76 per scm.

The price cut applies uniformly to domestic consumers across the region.

The reduction follows a major policy move by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board. The regulator recently restructured pipeline transportation tariffs.

The revised framework lowered gas transmission costs, allowing city gas distributors like IGL to recalibrate consumer pricing.

IGL stated that the move aligns with its broader commitment to affordable clean energy.

“IGL reinforces its commitment to making clean energy both accessible and affordable as we step into 2026,” the company said in an official statement.

PNGRB announced the rationalised tariff structure on December 16. The revised framework simplifies gas transportation charges and improves cost efficiency for both consumers and city gas distribution companies.

The new structure will officially come into force from January 1, 2026.

Under the revised system, PNGRB reduced the number of distance-based tariff zones from three to two. The new zones cover distances up to 300 kilometres and beyond.

Importantly, the regulator introduced a single, lower Zone-1 tariff. The rate is set at approximately ₹54 per million British thermal units for domestic PNG and CNG consumers. It applies nationwide, regardless of distance from the gas source.

Piped natural gas serves multiple purposes across India’s energy ecosystem. Households use it primarily for cooking, while industries rely on it for power generation and fertiliser production.

The transport sector also depends on natural gas to produce compressed natural gas, a cleaner alternative fuel for taxis, buses, and public transport vehicles.

The tariff reform marks a significant policy intervention aimed at expanding the adoption of clean fuels while reducing consumer costs.

With transportation expenses lowered and pricing simplified, city gas distribution networks stand to expand faster and more efficiently.

By cutting prices ahead of the New Year, Indraprastha Gas Limited positions itself as a key player in advancing affordable clean energy. The move translates regulatory reform into tangible household savings across Delhi-NCR.
