India’s Smallest Chip To Drive The World’s Biggest Change: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 2 September, inaugurated Semicon India 2025 in New Delhi with a bold declaration, “India’s smallest chip will bring the biggest change to the world.”

Addressing a global audience of semiconductor leaders, investors, and delegates from over 40 countries, PM Modi underscored India’s strategic vision to lead the next technological revolution.

Speaking at the prestigious event, PM Modi emphasised that India is no longer content being merely a backend support system for the global chip industry.

“India is now building a full-stack ecosystem—from design and innovation to manufacturing and research—to become a global semiconductor powerhouse,” he stated.

PM Modi drew a compelling comparison between oil in the 20th century and semiconductors in the 21st, calling chips ‘digital diamonds’ that drive the modern economy.

“Oil shaped the last century, and the fate of the world was tied to oil wells. But in the 21st century, power is concentrated in the small chip. Though tiny, it has the strength to drive the world’s progress at great speed,” he said.

Global Trust and Indian Innovation

With technology leaders and innovators attending from across the globe, PM Modi highlighted the world’s growing confidence in India’s capabilities.

“The world trusts India. The world believes in India. And the world is ready to build the semiconductor future with India,” the Prime Minister declared.

He credited India’s youth power, vibrant innovation ecosystem, and consistently strong economic growth for building this global trust.

PM Modi pointed to India’s 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the April–June quarter, calling it a clear indicator of the country’s economic resilience.

“This growth spans across all sectors and demonstrates the strength of India’s economy,” PM Modi said, emphasising that India is not only advancing in manufacturing but also taking the lead globally in technology and innovation.

Highlighting future prospects, he pointed out that the global semiconductor market, currently worth $600 billion, will soon surpass the $1 trillion mark.

He further asserted that India will play a central role in shaping this future.

As India continues to invest in cutting-edge technology, research infrastructure, and skilled human capital, its ambitions in the semiconductor domain are fast becoming a reality.

PM Modi’s remarks at Semicon India 2025 reinforced the country’s commitment to self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and global competitiveness.

With innovation at its core and strong international collaboration, India aims to ensure that the chips it produces—though small in size—will have an outsized impact on the world.
