Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that India is emerging as a global powerhouse in the maritime sector due to transformative reforms implemented by the Modi government.
Speaking at the inaugural session of India Maritime Week in Mumbai, Shah emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maritime vision rests on security, stability, and self-reliance, shaping India’s rise as a leading maritime nation.
He said, “India is acting as a bridge between the Indo-Pacific and the Global South through its strategic maritime position, democratic stability, and naval capability. We are advancing development, security, and environmental sustainability simultaneously.”
Highlighting the global participation, Shah noted that representatives from over 100 countries attended the maritime conference.
“This gathering reflects India’s maritime tradition as a central force for global partnership and regional stability,” he remarked.
Standing on the shores of Mumbai, he called the event the launch of a Maritime Revolution for Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning India as a major global player in sea trade and logistics.
The Home Minister announced India’s commitment to a green maritime future, targeting 100 per cent green fuel ships—powered by ammonia and methanol—by 2030.
The government, he said, is advancing AI-based predictive logistics to save 15 per cent of fuel and has introduced a National Maritime Single Window to enable 95 per cent digital clearances.
“India’s 11,000 km coastline and 13 coastal states serve as the backbone of trade, logistics, and the blue economy,” Shah said, underscoring the sector’s vast potential.
Under the Sagarmala initiative, 70 key projects have already been completed, improving port infrastructure and connectivity.
Moreover, Shah announced that the maritime sector contributes nearly 60 per cent to India’s GDP through ports, shipping, and logistics.
He added, “This conference is projected to unlock ₹80 lakh crore in investments and generate 1.5 crore jobs. It will also create opportunities worth ₹10 lakh crore, helping achieve PM Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Amit Shah stressed that India promotes cooperation, not competition, in global maritime development.
“We have a roadmap ready to connect the world’s maritime industry,” he said. The minister called for collaboration in shipbuilding, inland waterways, and sustainable shipping to make India a global maritime hub.
He also announced that the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra will be among the world’s top 10 ports, highlighting India’s push for global competitiveness through modern infrastructure and innovation.
Concluding his address, Shah further said, “India’s oceans are not borders—they are bridges to a Viksit Bharat.”
Furthermore, he added that the India Maritime Week embodies the Maritime Vision 2030, aimed at achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat in ocean resources, trade, and technology.
The Home Minister affirmed that India’s growing maritime strength will play a pivotal role in ensuring global stability, sustainable growth, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
