President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the ‘positive impact’ of regular contact between India and Russia. She noted that the ongoing interaction at various levels continues to benefit the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma. The delegation visited Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of their official visit to India.
President Murmu emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties between women and youth parliamentarians of both countries. She welcomed the delegation, noting that such exchanges promote stronger cooperation and keep the partnership relevant.

She also highlighted the regular interactions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The President pointed out the success of mechanisms like the Inter-Parliamentary Commission in facilitating cooperation.
On the cultural front, President Murmu mentioned her recent inauguration of the New Delhi World Book Fair, where Russia is the ‘Focus Country.’ She encouraged stronger cultural and artistic engagements between the two nations.
Earlier, the Russian delegation visited both houses of the Indian Parliament. Volodin also met Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. During their meeting, Volodin reiterated India’s importance as a key partner for Russia in Asia.
Volodin noted the strong, mutually beneficial ties between India and Russia. He mentioned the growing bilateral trade, which has increased fivefold over the past five years. He stressed that both countries benefit from this strengthened cooperation.
Vice President Dhankhar also acknowledged the importance of India-Russia relations and the role of parliamentarians in strengthening these ties. He pointed out the significance of Prime Minister Modi’s visits to Russia, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
Volodin expressed his congratulations to India on Republic Day and invited Rajya Sabha members to visit Russia. The delegation included several key Russian leaders from various committees.
The visit underscores the ongoing growth of India-Russia relations, with both nations enhancing cooperation on global platforms such as the UN, BRICS, G20, and SCO.
