‘India Is Amazing’: Sunita Williams Talks About Her Space Views Over The Himalayas

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, back from a 278-day stay at the International Space Station (ISS), shared her experiences during a media interaction on Tuesday.

She spoke about her time in space, Boeing’s Starliner mission, and her deep connection with India.

Williams, whose father is from India, described the country’s breathtaking views from space.

“India is amazing,” she said, recalling the majestic sight of the Himalayas.

“Every time we went over the Himalayas, we got incredible pictures. The mountains formed like ripples and flowed down into India.”

She confirmed that she would visit India soon, noting, “India is a wonderful democracy, a great country. I am going back to my father’s home country for sure.”

Williams and fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore were aboard the ISS longer than planned due to a thruster malfunction on Boeing’s Starliner.

However, they dismissed claims of being ‘stranded in space’.

Wilmore clarified that they never felt stuck, emphasizing that NASA had full control of the situation.

Williams also praised India’s space program, highlighting its rapid advancements.

She expressed her eagerness to meet Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a member of the Gaganyaan mission.

Williams noted that Shukla will soon fly into space as part of the Axiom-4 mission.

The astronauts also discussed life after their return, including the first meals they had on Earth.

Williams expressed gratitude for her safe return and excitement for future space missions.
