Prime Minister Narendra Modi described India-Germany cooperation in defence and security as a ‘testament to mutual trust and shared vision’, expressing his sincere gratitude to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for simplifying defence trade procedures.
Highlighting the importance of strengthening defence industries, he announced plans to develop a comprehensive roadmap for enhanced collaboration, creating new opportunities for co-development and co-production between the two countries.
PM Modi also underlined that 2026 marks 75 years of diplomatic relations and 25 years of strategic partnership between India and Germany.
He noted that growing trade and investment, now exceeding USD 50 billion, have injected fresh energy into the bilateral relationship, with over 2,000 German companies maintaining a long-standing and confident presence in India.
The Prime Minister emphasised that close economic cooperation between the two nations is crucial, not only for mutual growth but also for addressing global challenges.
In addition to defence and trade, PM Modi highlighted shared priorities in renewable energy, technology, and innovation, stressing the significant impact of ongoing collaborations in these fields.
To further strengthen cooperation, he announced the establishment of the India-Germany Centre of Excellence, which will serve as a hub for knowledge exchange, technological collaboration, and innovation-driven partnerships.
Recalling historic cultural and people-to-people ties, PM Modi cited the contributions of Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, and Madame Cama, whose works and vision shaped perceptions of India in Germany and Europe.
He underscored that these enduring cultural connections are now being transformed into a vibrant, modern partnership that spans diplomacy, trade, technology, and defence.
The Prime Minister’s visit and the initiatives announced aim to deepen India-Germany relations across multiple sectors, reflecting a partnership built on mutual trust, shared vision, and a commitment to sustainable progress and global collaboration.
