India Disburses Rs 21,689 Crore Under PLI, 806 Projects Approved Across 14 Sectors

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has approved 806 projects across 14 key sectors, with cumulative incentives of Rs 21,689 crore disbursed since its inception, the government informed Parliament on Tuesday.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that as of July, Rs 1,856 crore in incentives has been disbursed in the ongoing financial year (FY26).

“The PLI schemes, with an overall outlay of Rs 1.97 lakh crore, aim to make Indian industries globally competitive and attract large-scale investments,” he noted in a written reply to a Lok Sabha query.

The approved sectors include electronics, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, textiles, food processing, solar modules, speciality steel, medical devices, telecom, and drones, among others.

Companies have realised investments worth Rs 1.90 lakh crore under the PLI schemes till June this year.

The scheme has already spurred incremental production and sales exceeding Rs 17 lakh crore, while exports have crossed Rs 7.5 lakh crore. It has also generated over 12.3 lakh direct and indirect jobs across the country, reinforcing India’s manufacturing and employment landscape.

Electronics and Pharmaceuticals Lead the Way

Electronics and pharmaceuticals have emerged as major beneficiaries. Mobile phone production, for example, has risen by 146 per cent in value terms between 2020-21 and 2024-25, while mobile exports have surged nearly eightfold, from Rs 22,870 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 2 lakh crore in 2024-25.

The pharmaceutical sector has achieved cumulative sales of Rs 2.66 lakh crore over three years, with exports contributing Rs 1.70 lakh crore.

During this period, India has transitioned from being a net importer of bulk drugs to a net exporter.

The government has introduced measures such as quarterly disbursement of claims, online application systems, simplified compliance procedures, and faster regulatory approvals to ensure timely support under the PLI schemes.

Officials highlighted that the PLI scheme’s impact is widespread, with tangible gains in production, exports, and employment across sectors.

By providing targeted incentives and easing procedural bottlenecks, the initiative continues to strengthen India’s manufacturing base and global competitiveness.
