India Deports 51 Hardened Criminals In 2026, Three Brought Back From Malaysia, Says Amit Shah

Indian agencies have facilitated the deportation of 51 hardened criminals in 2026, the Union Home Ministry said on Monday.

The announcement followed the apprehension and deportation of three alleged gangsters from Malaysia.

Punjab Police, working with central agencies, secured the return of three alleged operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang on August 19. Authorities subsequently handed them over to the police.

The Home Minister’s Office said on X that Indian agencies apprehended three absconding Indian gangsters in Malaysia. They deported the gangsters to India and handed them over to police custody. It identified the fugitives as Jaspreet Singh, Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh.

The three fugitives have links to the Bambiha Gang and allegedly committed extortion, cross-border arms trafficking and narco-trafficking. They allegedly planned a grenade attack in Ludhiana that authorities foiled.

The Centre earlier said India had brought back 274 fugitive criminals from 36 countries between 2019 and July 2026.

The Ministry of Home Affairs attributed the progress to stronger laws, international cooperation, inter-agency coordination and technology-led investigations.

The government further said its strategy rests on three pillars: global outreach, stronger coordination and smart diplomacy.

Legal measures include the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018, amendments to the NIA Act and UAPA in 2019, and BNSS provisions permitting trials in absentia under Sections 355 and 356.

India launched BHARATPOL in January 2025. The platform connects more than 1,400 state and central law enforcement agencies with INTERPOL.
