‘I Apologise To All The Victims And Their Families’, Says Manipur CM Biren Singh; Hopes For Return To Normalcy In New Year

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday apologized for the ethnic violence that began in May last year. Addressing the media, he expressed “sorry and regret” for the unfortunate events that disrupted lives across the state.

“It is very unfortunate that many people lost their loved ones, and others had to leave their homes and villages. I apologize to all the victims and their families,” Singh said. He added that despite the challenges, the year ends on a positive note, with hopes for peace and normalcy in 2025.

Optimism Amid Progress

The Chief Minister highlighted significant progress in recent months. Most districts remained incident-free for several months, signaling an improvement in the fragile situation. Singh commended the efforts of the state and central security forces in maintaining calm and addressing violence.

He reported that around 5,600 arms, explosives, and 35,000 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Security forces arrested 625 accused persons and registered 12,247 FIRs over the past 20 months. Singh also acknowledged the central government’s support, including adequate security personnel and funds for displaced families.

CM Calls For Unity And Forgiveness

Singh emphasized the importance of unity among Manipur’s 34-35 communities. “We would live together after forgiving what already happened,” he said. He appealed to all communities to work towards a prosperous and peaceful Manipur.

Reflecting on 2024, Singh reaffirmed his commitment to inclusivity and progress. “As we step into 2025, I reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive state,” he said.

Singh admitted that finding a solution to the ongoing ethnic conflict would take time due to its complexity and chronic nature. However, he expressed hope that with consistent efforts from security forces and the administration, peace would return.

The Chief Minister urged citizens to continue working together for a peaceful and united Manipur in the New Year.
