Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday kick-started the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming local and civic body elections in Maharashtra.
He urged party workers to secure a decisive victory that would establish a ‘triple-engine government’ in the state.
Shah stated while addressing BJP workers after laying the foundation stone for the new Maharashtra BJP office in South Mumbai, “In Maharashtra, the BJP-led NDA has won thrice, and Devendra Fadnavis has served as Chief Minister three times. The state already has a double-engine government, but I am not satisfied with just that; we want a triple-engine government. The party must contest the upcoming polls with full force, defeating the opposition, which will not even be visible through binoculars.”
Recalling the BJP’s rise in the state, Shah noted that the alliance with the undivided Shiv Sena broke ahead of the 2014 elections.
The BJP then fought independently and emerged as the single-largest party under CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Since then, he said, Fadnavis has held the Chief Minister’s post three times, and the BJP, once ranked fourth in Maharashtra, has now become the state’s leading political force.
“I am proud that the BJP has not only strengthened its position in Maharashtra but also remained committed to its ideology and values. Today, the BJP stands firmly on its own, without political crutches. Just as the BJP holds an unshakable place in India’s politics, it has become a strong presence in Maharashtra’s political landscape,” he said.
Highlighting the historical significance of the site where the new party headquarters will come up, Shah remarked, “This is the land (Mumbai) where the Jan Sangh merged into the Janata Dal, paving the way for the BJP’s formation. As Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji said, ‘Andhera chhatega, kamal khilega’ darkness will fade and the lotus will bloom.”
Shah said the BJP takes pride in seeing the PM lead the country for a third consecutive term.
“We have proved that family-run parties can no longer dominate Indian politics. It is performance-based politics that will drive the nation forward. A child born in a humble tea-seller’s family rose through dedication, sacrifice, and hard work to become the Prime Minister. A party that cannot uphold democracy within itself can never protect democracy in the country. This is our message to all dynastic parties,” he said.
He further asserted that under PM Modi’s leadership, the BJP has delivered on major promises.
This includes the construction of the Ram Temple and the abrogation of Article 370.
Several states have also adopted the Uniform Civil Code.
Amit Shah added, “India has emerged as a strong nation and the world’s fourth-largest economy under PM Modi’s leadership, with national security as a top priority. Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev are the latest examples of our zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.”
