HM Amit Shah To Review Flood Havoc In Jammu Today

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah is in Jammu on Sunday to take stock of the large-scale destruction triggered by incessant rains, flash floods, landslides and soil erosion in the region.

The visit, spread over two days beginning 31 August, includes an aerial inspection this morning of the areas worst affected, along with a review of relief measures already underway.

At about 10:45 AM, Shah is likely to fly over flood-stricken zones such as Katra, the starting point of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, and Kishtwar, where severe cloudbursts and landslides have claimed many lives and caused extensive damage to infrastructure.

Among the deceased are numerous pilgrims who had set out for the Machail Mata and Vaishno Devi yatras, according to reports.

High-Level Meeting at Raj Bhawan

Once the aerial survey is completed, the Home Minister will head to Raj Bhawan to preside over a high-level meeting.

The agenda will be to closely evaluate the response so far and to speed up relief, rescue and rehabilitation work in the hardest-hit districts.

Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and security agencies are likely to brief Shah on the progress of ongoing operations.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior bureaucrats, and disaster management authorities will likely present their assessments, highlighting the extent of damage, infrastructure losses, and measures implemented on the ground.

Accompanying Shah is a team from the Union Home Ministry, underscoring the Centre’s direct involvement in the crisis response.

The minister is likely to announce measures aimed at restoring connectivity and strengthening rehabilitation and recovery efforts for affected communities.

Earlier on Sunday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah toured Ramban and Udhampur districts, where he examined the widespread devastation caused by recent cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides and mudslides, which have severely disrupted normal life and blocked the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
