Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the historic Bastar Dussehra festival this year, following a formal invitation extended by Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap on behalf of the Bastar Dussehra Committee and the Manjhi-Chalaki community.
The festival, one of India’s longest-running cultural celebrations, spans 75 days and showcases the region’s rich tribal heritage.
During the meeting in New Delhi on September 19, HM Shah received a sacred image of Maa Danteshwari, the revered deity of Bastar, symbolising the spiritual essence of the festival.
HM Shah posts on his X handle, highlighting Bastar’s renewed spirit following the decline of Naxalism. He describes the Muria Darbar, a central feature of the festival, as a living testament to the region’s tribal culture.
Shah expresses his eagerness to witness the vibrant traditions that define Bastar’s identity and accepts the invitation to visit on October 4.
On October 4, HM Shah will attend the Muria Darbar at Sirhasar Bhavan in Jagdalpur, where he will engage with tribal representatives and review the progress of Mission 2026, the central campaign aimed at eliminating Naxalism in the region.
His visit is expected to draw national attention to Bastar’s cultural heritage and developmental priorities.
The Bastar Dussehra Committee also extends an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the growing national prominence of the festival.
Bastar Dussehra, unlike the mainstream celebration of Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana, honours local deities, particularly Maa Danteshwari.
The festival provides a platform for tribal communities to present their concerns through ceremonial gatherings such as the Muria Darbar.
This year marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a Union Home Minister participates in the Muria Darbar, reinforcing government outreach to the tribal heartland amid ongoing development and anti-Naxal initiatives.
