HM Amit Shah Champions Cooperative Power; Says Haryana Is Redefining Farmers’ Prosperity

Union Home and Cooperation Minister HM Amit Shah on Wednesday delivered a forceful political and economic message from Panchkula, declaring that Haryana is steadily rewriting the story of farmers’ prosperity by tightly integrating agriculture with the cooperative movement.

Addressing a high-profile cooperative conference organised by Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), HM Amit Shah positioned cooperation as the central pillar of India’s future rural economy.

Sharing the stage with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and senior dignitaries, HM Amit Shah said Haryana’s civilisational legacy now stands matched by its modern agricultural vision.

He asserted that the state is demonstrating how collaboration between farmers, cooperatives and government policy can generate lasting prosperity rather than short-term relief.

Marking the International Year of Cooperatives, HM Amit Shah inaugurated multiple initiatives, including a milk chilling centre, a HAFED flour mill, distribution of RuPay Platinum cards, registration of model Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), and the launch of a dedicated cooperative portal.

He described these steps as instruments of empowerment rather than symbolic gestures.

HM Amit Shah underlined that nearly 70 per cent of India’s population depends directly or indirectly on agriculture and animal husbandry.

He stressed that while these sectors already provide the largest share of employment, linking them with cooperation multiplies income, stability and opportunity.

According to HM Amit Shah, cooperation transforms livelihoods into sustainable enterprises.

Cooperation Drives Rural Transformation

To drive home the argument, HM Amit Shah cited the Amul model in Gujarat, noting that cooperative milk producers receive nearly Rs 90,000 crore annually, far exceeding what market sales alone could deliver. He said this gap proves the unmatched strength of cooperative economics.

HM Amit Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for redefining agricultural policy by establishing the Ministry of Cooperation and shifting the national focus from subsistence to prosperity.

He said the Modi government strengthened agriculture’s foundation and then used cooperation as a growth engine.

Outlining the new agricultural roadmap, HM Amit Shah highlighted low water usage, reduced chemical dependence and risk-mitigated cropping as the cornerstones of sustainable farming.

He emphasised soil testing, scientific irrigation, natural farming and crop diversification as tools to raise incomes.

HM Amit Shah pointed to massive budgetary expansion under the Modi government, noting that the agriculture budget rose from Rs 22,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 1.27 lakh crore today.

He added that rural development funding more than doubled, empowering villages with unprecedented financial resources.

He said initiatives such as crop insurance reform, PM-Kisan income support, the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, e-NAM, irrigation expansion and dairy-sector reforms ensure that profits reach farmers directly.

HM Amit Shah concluded by asserting that cooperation is no longer optional but essential, declaring that Haryana’s model proves how farmers can move from dependency to dignity through collective strength.
