Maharashtra Legislature witnessed a heated face-off on Tuesday as members of the ruling Mahayuti and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi clashed over Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements in the Lok Sabha.
The confrontation escalated with legislators from both sides exchanging slogans and accusations.
Mahayuti members prominently displayed placards condemning Rahul Gandhi’s speech, demanding an apology for remarks perceived as offensive to Hindus.
They also raised fervent Hindutva slogans, underscoring their stance on the matter.
On the opposing side, MVA legislators vocally defended Rahul Gandhi and criticized the BJP for what they termed as a strategy of leveraging false Hindutva to polarize and secure Hindu votes.
The atmosphere remained charged as both factions stood firm on their positions.
Leaders weighed in on the contentious issue, with Congress’ Leader of Opposition (Assembly) Vijay Wadettiwar and Shiv Sena’s Leader of Opposition (Council) Ambadas Danve launching scathing critiques against the Mahayuti and the BJP-led NDA government.
Meanwhile, Danve rebuked the BJP’s moral authority, highlighting their past actions in the Lok Sabha and dismissing their criticisms of Rahul Gandhi’s remarks.
Wadettiwar defended Rahul Gandhi, asserting that his speech centered on constitutional principles without disparaging Hindutva, countering what he described as BJP’s attempts to fabricate a narrative.
In a defiant tone, Danve brushed off calls for his resignation, suggesting that critics pursue their grievances through proper channels if they so wished.
Further defending Rahul Gandhi, Wadettiwar emphasized that the BJP’s discomfort stemmed from Rahul Gandhi’s expose of divisive tactics, accusing the party of distorting the essence of Hindutva to gain electoral advantage.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, SS (UBT) MPs Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi rallied in support of Rahul Gandhi, commending his parliamentary performance as a significant challenge to top BJP figures.
