Taking to social media platform X, President Murmu described the deaths of children in the incident as heartbreaking and conveyed her deepest sympathies to the bereaved families.

The accident occurred on Tuesday near Rampur Shyamchand village, under the Raghopur police station area, when passengers were reportedly travelling to attend a feast.

Around half a dozen people were reportedly injured, while rescue teams searched the river for missing passengers.

Preliminary information suggested that between 15 and 20 people were aboard the boat when it capsized.

The exact number of passengers and the final casualty figures remained subject to official confirmation.

The accident triggered panic among local residents, who joined the administration in rescue efforts.

Authorities rescued several passengers and took the injured to hospital for treatment.
